The World Data Center for Aurora in NIPR has a huge collection of auroral and geomagnetic data starting from the IGY period. The collection includes all-sky camera films, visual observations, other optical observations, auroral image and auroral particle data by satellites, normal-run magnetograms, and records of phenomena associated with aurora (ULF,VLF and CNA activities) mainly from Antarctic stations. The data center has various facilities for data reproduction and further detailed data analyses. It also has an image data processing system (ARSAD: automatic retrieval system for auroral data) and a data base management system (ADBASE: auroral data base). The ARSAD system makes it possible to convert image data stored in all-sky camera films or video tapes to digital values at a high speed. By using the ADBASE system, users can easily search information about the stored data in the data center with various key parameters. The data center publishes data books (AE data book Nos. 8-25; in collaboration with WDC for Geomagnetism, Kyoto) and data catalogs (Data Catalogue, World Data Center for Aurora Nos.1-5).
