The Eighth Symposium on Polar Science will be held at the National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR), Tokyo, Japan, from 4th to 8th December 2017. The NIPR is organizing this annual symposium to present and promote a wide variety of polar scientific research and interdisciplinary studies.
We look forward to your active participation.
時下ますます御清祥のこととお慶び申し上げます。
国立極地研究所は、極域科学研究の中核拠点として、南極・北極域における観測の推進や極域科学の発展に尽力すると共に、試資料を利用した共同研究を国内外の研究者と協力して進めています。またその研究成果を発表し、極域科学研究者相互の交流や情報交換を行う目的で、「極域科学シンポジウム」を開催してまいりました。
今年度も、「第８回極域科学シンポジウム」を下記の要領で開催いたします。従来の宙空圏・気水圏・地圏・生物圏・南極隕石の個別セッションに加え、今回も特別セッション・分野横断型セッションを設け、これまでの枠を超えた情報交換を行う場としたいと考えております。
本シンポジウムの趣旨をご理解頂き、ふるって研究成果の発表をいただきますよう御案内申し上げます。

The symposium will be held at the National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR), the Institute of Statistical Mathematics (ISM) and the National Institute for Japanese Language and Linguistics (NINJAL) located adjacent to the NIPR.

Style and language for presentation
発表形式と発表言語
Presentation style is either oral presentation or poster presentation. We ask you to indicate your preference at the timing of abstract submission. The symposium organizing committee will make a decision for style of each presentation.
Language for oral presentations is English as a rule. Even in the case of presenting in Japanese, slides for oral presentations must be written in English. In poster presentations, English must be used at least in abstract and explanations for figures and tables.
口頭形式と、ポスター形式で行います。発表申込時に希望を選択いただき、最終的には実行委員会がプログラム編成時に判断いたします。
口頭発表の言語は、原則として英語とします。やむを得ず日本語で発表する場合も、スライドの記載言語は英語とします。ポスター発表の言語についても、少なくとも図表の説明の記載言語は英語とし、英語の要旨を用意するなど、ご配慮をお願いします。
About environment of the poster presentation
ポスター発表の環境について
Poster sessions will be held at the Entrance Hall of NIPR on the 1st floor, collecting all posters presented for the symposium. Each poster can be displayed for two days including a core time for each poster. We plan to use poster boards with a size of 1170mm in horizontal width, 870mm in vertical width, and with top height of 1800 mm. The board is for landscape type posters. However, portrait type posters can be displayed as well using the horizontal width of up to 1170 mm.
国立極地研究所１Fの交流アトリウムの広い空間を用いて、すべてのセッションのポスターを集めて行います。すべてのポスターは、それぞれのコアタイムを含めた２日間にわたり貼り出し可能とします。ポスターボードは、ボード面の横幅1170mm 縦幅870mm ボード面トップ高が1800mm高のものを今回予定しております。ボード面にあわせ横長（Landscape）のポスター掲示も可能ですし、ボード面に吊り下げるかたちで縦長（Portrait）のポスター掲示も可能です。この場合、横幅は1170mmが最大値となります。発表形式の選択の参考にして下さい。
