This science session was focusing on recent progress of microbiomes and biogeochemical processes on the terrestrial environment of the Arctic, which was one of the sessions of Theme E: Unravelling Arctic Ecosystem Dynamics. Total of 21 talks or e-posters were presented in the session by young and senior scientists mostly from western countries. The presented studies were on microbial communities in permafrost, lakes and ponds, wetlands, and glaciers analyzed by genetic technics. Some of the studies were combined with remote sensing, including drone photography and satellite images to upscale the microbial distribution in the regions. The session conveners introduced the new international project of T-MOSAiC (the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate), which is an IASC pan-Arctic, land-based program that extends the activities of the IASC flagship program MOSAiC and encouraged the session participants to contribute the papers to the T-MOSAiC special issue of the journal of “Frontiers of Microbiology”.
