Japanese Language Version of AMAP Summary for Policy-makers Is Released

On May 20, 2021, the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Program (AMAP) , one of the working groups of the Arctic Council (AC), released five Summaries for Policy-makers. A notable point of the reports is that the increase in annual average surface temperature (including land and sea) in the Arctic from 1971 to 2019 was three times higher than the global average increase over the same period. This is higher than had been reported in previous AMAP assessments.

The AMAP was established in 1991 to monitor and assess the status of pollution and climate change issues in the Arctic. Based on the current status of the Arctic and the latest scientific findings, AMAP has developed recommendations for policy-makers in related fields to make the Arctic a sustainable region.

The Arctic Challenges for Sustainability (ArCS II) has now released a Japanese language version of the summaries under the supervision of experts in the summary fields (Climate change, Mercury and persistent organic pollutants, Air pollutants, and Human health). These reports provide an easy-to-understand overview of AMAP’s activities and what we need to do now.
