The National Institute of Polar Research, Research Organization of Information and Systems, Inter-University Research Institute Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “the Institute”) is committed to protecting personal information in accordance with the following policy based on the “Rules for the Protection of Personal Information of the Research Organization of Information and Systems (in Japanese)”

  • Acquisition of Personal Information
    The Institute shall acquire personal information only when it is necessary for the performance of its operation and in a manner that does not exceed the scope of the purposes for which the information is to be used. The Institute shall acquire personal information in a lawful and fair manner.
  • Use of Personal Information
    The Institute shall not use personal information for any other purposes or provide it to any third party without obtaining the prior consent of the individual to whom the information pertains, except as required by law.
    In addition, when the Institute provides personal information to a third party or entrusts a third party with the handling of personal information in accordance with laws and regulations, the Institute shall conduct a rigorous investigation of such third party with respect to the security of such personal information and its management capabilities, and shall exercise appropriate supervision over such third party in handling such personal information.
  • Management of Personal Information
    The Institute shall manage the personal information in its possession in an appropriate manner, and shall take necessary measures, including information security measures, to prevent the loss, destruction, alteration or leakage of such personal information.
  • Disclosure, Correction, Suspension of Use, and Deletion of Personal Information
    If the individual requests the disclosure, correction, suspension of use, or deletion of his/her personal information obtained by the Institute, the Institute shall promptly respond to such request within a reasonable period and scope in accordance with the rules, after confirming the identification of the individual.
  • Compliance with Laws and Regulations
    The Institute shall comply with laws, regulations and other rules related to the protection of personal information, and shall continuously review and improve the contents of this privacy policy. Any changes to the content of this privacy policy shall be posted on this website and shall become effective from the time of posting.
