Department of Polar Research, Sokendai

The Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI) was established as Japan’s first graduate school in October 1988. Currently the University consists of six schools, the School of Cultural and Social Studies, the School of Physical Sciences, the School of High Energy Accelerator Sciences, the School of Multidisciplinary Sciences, the School of Life Sciences, and the School of Advanced Sciences. The University undertakes doctoral education and research in close collaboration with its related institutes, making full use of their highly capable personnel and superior research environments.
The university takes leadership in responding to new trends in academic research, providing researchers with a broad, international perspective and fostering a high level of creative thinking. In addition, the university promotes original, international academic research that transcends conventional academic fields and pioneers new disciplines.
