About us

The Arctic Environment Research Center (AERC) was established in June 1990 at the National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR) to promote sea ice study, oceanography, marine ecology, terrestrial ecology, atmospheric science, glaciology, and upper atmospheric science.

AERC is gathering and providing information on Arctic observation and arranging cooperative use of Arctic observation facilities.
