Public relation activities at JpGU 2016 Meeting

We exhibited the ArCS project during Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU) 2016 Meeting held from 22nd to 25th May, 2016 at Makuhari Messe. ArCS brochure, which was issued just in time for this exhibition, and the brochures of core institutes were distributed at the booth, and posters introducing research themes and other activities were presented. Demonstrations of the Arctic Data archive System (ADS) were also set up to greet visitors.

The most standout exhibit at our booth was the half-sphere-shaped Dagik Earth screen for the demonstration of ADS. It shows the sea ice simulation to the year 2100 by MIROC 5 (a global climate model). As we explained about the possible occurrence of complete sea ice loss in some years after the year 2050 in the Arctic Ocean with Dagik Earth, visitors seemed to imagine the look of Arctic region without ice, and people’s lives or ecosystem there.

We look forward to providing research progresses or outcomes from the project next year.
