ArCS project’s 2017 plenary meeting

ArCS project’s 2017 plenary meeting was held at Miyoshi Memorial Auditorium and foyer, JAMSTEC Yokohama Institute for Earth Sciences on Tuesday, 30th and Wednesday, 31st May, 2017. The event was attended by around 90 participants.

On the first day of the meeting, the principal investigators of respective project menus and research themes explained recent outcomes and activity plans in the fiscal year 2017 to the project members.

On the second day, we had eight oral presentations and 17 poster presentations provided by young and mid-level researchers, which are based on the latest activities of each research theme.

There were also two sessions focusing on the topics that should be shared by the project members. At the session 1 titled as “Sharing of data about the Arctic and related activities in ArCS”, several opinions were provided by the participants; e.g. FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) is the most important thing when handling data, researchers’ cooperation on the data registration is indispensable to the global development of ADS (Arctic Data archive System), and etc. At the session 2 titled as “Current status and future forecast for the international collaboration sites in ArCS”, there were opinions such as it being important to widely introduce activities by Japanese researchers at the research/observation stations in the Arctic in view of ensuring the international presence of Japan.

The next plenary meeting will be held in early summer of 2018.
