First Debriefing Session of the Program for Overseas Visits by Young Researchers

On 7 March 2017, the first debriefing session of the program for overseas visits by young researchers was held right after the plenary meeting of ArCS project. Four young researchers attended the session as speakers: Ms. Narumi Tahara (Osaka Prefecture University), Dr. Takuya Nakanowatari (National Institute of Polar Research), Mr. Ryozo Ohshima (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines) and I (Kobe University). Since Mr. Arata Kioka (University of Innsbruck) was not able to attend the session, he made a poster to introduce his research activity for the poster session in the plenary meeting.

The young researchers’ session began with the general explanation of this program by Professor Sei-Ichi Saitoh, moderator of the session. In the first half of the session, each speaker made a brief presentation on his or her research activity during the period of the program and its outcome. In the second half of the session, we discussed the developments of our researches after returning to Japan and their future prospects. Then we opened the discussion to the floor and Mr. Ohshima was asked several questions. Finally, the debriefing session was closed with my concluding remarks.

During the debriefing session, I personally realized that the connections I could establish with overseas researchers through the program has become an important asset for my present research. Also, this session was a rare opportunity for me to get to know other young researchers’ activities in different academic fields.

Last but not least, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Professor Sei-ichi Saito, Dr. Shingo Tanaka, Mr. Ojiro Suzuki and anonymous reviewers for all their support to our research activities and to the preparation for this session.
