From July 22-August 17, 2016, I visited the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), with funding from the ArCS’ program for overseas visits by young researchers.
Arctic Challenge for Sustainability project (ArCS) held a public lecture on Saturday, 18th March 2017 at Seiryo-kaikan Hall, Nagatacho. There were 158 audiences including scientists, company workers and students.
ArCS project’s 2016 2nd plenary meeting was held at Miyoshi Memorial Auditorium and foyer, JAMSTEC Yokohama Institute for Earth Sciences on Tuesday, 7th March 2016. The said event was attended by around 90 participants.
We are just finishing up an intensive observation campaign named “Arctic Clouds, Aerosols, and Radiation Experiment 2017 (Arctic-CARE 2017)” in Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard. We have started packing of our instruments this week.
“The Open Seminar on the Northern Sea Route from the Latest Arctic Research Works” was held on March 10th, 2017 in Tokyo jointly hosted by ArCS and the Japan Arctic Research Network Center (J-ARC Net).
Second ArCS council meeting was held on Monday, 5th December 2016 at National Institute of Polar Research in Tachikawa, Tokyo.
CBird Group (The Circumpolar Seabird Expert Group) Annual Meeting was held in Torshavn, the capital of Faroe Islands, in 7th -9th March 2017. The CBird Group is an Expert Group under CAFF, which was established in 1993 to enhance seabird research and conservation in the Arctic. 22 delegates attended the meeting from 8 Arctic Council countries and 3 observer countries. This is first time for Japan to participate CBird Group.
We have just started an intensive observation campaign Arctic Clouds, Aerosols, and Radiation Experiment 2017(Arctic-CARE 2017)in Ny-Alesund in Norway. The Arctic is warming more rapidly than the rest of the globe, but the contributions from forcing and feedback mechanisms associated with aerosols and clouds remain uncertain. In this campaign, a research group consisting of National Institute of Polar Research, the University of Tokyo, and the West Texas A&M University is making intensive measurements of the aerosols and clouds at Mt. Zeppelin observatory (474 m a.s.l.) in Ny-Alesund.
The CAFF biennial meeting was held on 1-2 February at Kautokeino, Norway.
Kautokeino is a municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. Kautokeino is one of cultural centers of Northern Sápmi.
