On March 8 - 21, 2016, I conducted a research in University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), United States. The research was carried out with financial assistance from the Program for Overseas Visits by Young Researchers, which is a part of ArCS project. The purpose of the research was mainly to consider the future role of observer states within the Arctic Council through the participation in the Model Arctic Council (MAC), Arctic Science Summit Week (ASSW) 2016 and Arctic Observing Summit (AOS).

From 22nd to 24th March 2016, international workshop on "Greenland ice sheet mass loss and its impact on global climate change" was held at the Institute of Low Temperature Science, Hokkaido University. Including nine leading scientists from Switzerland, Denmark, Canada and US, ~60 participants attended the workshop to present recent study results, to exchange ideas and experiences, and to discuss future international collaboration in Greenland research.

Regarding the news release “World's First Ship-based Observations of Atmospheric Black Carbon Particles over Arctic Ocean -Towards more sophisticated prediction of climate changes around the globe-”in February 2016, we asked to the author of the paper, Dr. Fumikazu Taketani (JAMSTEC), for some more explanation. Hope you enjoy this blog post as an additional information.

Arctic Circle General Assembly 2015 was held at the Harpa Conference Center in Reykjavik, Iceland on 16th – 18th October, 2015. Arctic Circle is one of the international assemblies to discuss issues related to the fields of industry, government, and academia. International politics and issues related to indigenous people can also be an item on the agenda. The first assembly was held in 2013 and the government of Iceland has been playing a leading role since then.
