Class registration
As a condition for applying for a doctoral degree assessment, it is necessary to earn a prescribed number of credits. The number of credits needed to earn a degree is given below.
Doctoral program
①8 or more credits from the Department's Special Subjects and Common Specialized Subjects of the School of Multidisciplinary Sciences (4 of the 8 credits must be completed from the Common Specialized subjects)
※may include up to 4 credits from subjects offered by the Interdepartmental Program (except Freshman Course)
②2 credits of Freshman Course from Interdepartmental Program
5-year Doctoral Program
①38 or more credits from the Department's Special Subjects and Common Specialized Subjects of the School of Multidisciplinary Sciences (8 of the 38 credits must be completed from the Common Specialized Subjects)
※may include up to 4 credits from subjects offered by the Interdepartmental Program (except Freshman Course)
②2 credits of Freshman Course from Interdepartmental Program
It is possible to register for subjects in schools (departments) other than that to which you belong or even for subjects at other universities. However, please note carefully that the maximum number of credits that can be counted from such subjects (including foundation subjects common to the School of Multidisciplinary Sciences) is 4 in the case of the doctoral program, and 15 in the case of the 5-year Doctoral Program.
Note that the question of whether or not earned credits can be counted towards doctoral program degree credits, depend on whether or not the content of the subject taken are related to your area of research. Keep this point in mind when registering for subjects.
If you interested in taking subjects offered by other schools (departments) or other universities, please inquire with the Academic Promotion Section in advance to confirm whether it is possible to register for the subjects. For various reasons, it may not be possible to fit in certain subjects.
